Question: Ms. Phelps, why did you decide to kill off Mark Darcy in the new Bridget Jones book?
Abby: Actually, I've been getting that question a lot. As you all know (Note from Bethany: You may not actually all know, because unlike Abby who struggles a bit with delusions [Note from Alec: That's a gross understatement.] I am aware that there aren't really all that many of you who have read Scenes From Highland Falls yet. So beware there may be some SPOILERS about to occur.) I wrote Bridget Jones's Diary because I owed Colin Firth a favor, and I wrote of Edge of Reason because Colin and I wanted to work together again. Of course, it was during filming for Edge of Reason that Colin Firth and I parted ways, after Hugh Grant and I...anyway...after that, Colin and Hugh weren't friends for a while either. It wasn't as bad as this:

But it wasn't good. But we've all since reconciled and were planning on a third Bridget film. We still are. Helen Fielding's new novel, Mad About The Boy, is not written, authorized, or supported by yours truly. It's essentially fan fiction. Read it and enjoy it if you like, but know that it isn't really the end of Mark Darcy.
